The NDA government has decided to speed up the widening of NH24 that runs from the national capital through large parts of the northern state. Though the proposal has been in the drawing board for several years, NHAI is set to invite tenders for widening the Delhi (Nizamuddin Bridge) to Hapur stretch of this highway to 14 lanes within a fortnight.
In another development, the proposed Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) project seems to be gaining momentum. A high-powered committee surveyed the Ghaziabad stretch of the proposed corridor. The committee undertook a survey of the proposed corridor from Dabur Crossing on the Link Road in Ghaziabad via Meerut T-point on NH58 till Begumpul in Meerut. The 90-km-long Delhi-Meerut RRTS project has been proposed as a transit system in the UP region of NCR that would run simultaneously with the Metro corridor. The corridor is proposed to begin from Anand Vihar in Delhi and culminate at Begumpul in Meerut.
