Many of us are bothered by wrong billing of electricity or inflated bills. To tackle these issues and give the residents of Noida, peace of mind, the power department in the city, is planning to shift 12,000 connections, ranging between 10kW and 25kW, from a manual or hand-held billing system to MRI-based (a non-human intervention) billing process.
- This plan is likely to be launched by this year end.
- The MRI (Meter Reading Instrument) is expected to check problems of inflated bills or wrong bill generation.
- Mukul Singhal, superintending engineer at Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. said, “by using MRI, human intervention is completely avoided as a device is plugged into the resident’s meter which extracts the reading.”
- The work has been outsourced to a private provider. This is being implemented on connections drawing 10-25kW power.
